Wickham Festival announces  first artists for 2020

Top celtic rock band The Waterboys; acclaimed singer-songwriter Nick Lowe and chart stars The South and Leo Sayer are among the first names announced for this year's Wickham Festival.

The award-winning 7000-capacity Festival will once again be held on a green field site just outside the village of Wickham near Fareham between Thursday 6th and Sunday 9th August.

It will be the first return to the Festival for The Waterboys since 2013 when a capacity crowd heard them perform classic songs like 'Fisherman's Blues' and 'Whole of the Moon'.

Former chart star Leo Sayer will be making his first appearance at the Festival as will singer-songwriter Nick Lowe who is best known as a long-time producer and songwriter for Elvis Costello as well as having several chart hits himself in a career spanning over 40 years.

Also announced are top folk artists Eliza Carthy and Seth Lakeman, leading Scottish artists Capercaillie and Eddi Reader, and a return visit for Britain's top acoustic music duo Show of Hands.

One of the world's top guitarists Stanley Jordan will be flying-in from America to perform a special 'Stanley plays Hendrix' set while Rod Stewart's long-time songwriter and musical director, Jim Cregan, will be presenting 'The Rod Stewart Songbook' with an all-star band.

Festival Organiser Peter Chegwyn said the Festival line-up is 'coming along nicely' and there are some big-name artists still to announce.

Early ticket sales are on a par with last year's record sales and we're hopeful of another sell-out for a Festival that attracts audience members from across the globe', said Peter.
