CHILDREN’S BOOKS’: this year’s theme, so that we give people the widest opportunity for interpretation.
We hope to see favourite story characters with lots of vivid colours and extravagant costumes in the Procession. The possible range is really very wide, ranging from
books like Robinson Crusoe, Gulliver’s Travels, Swiss Family Robinson, Wind in the Willows and Heidi to The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, The Boy in the Dress, Mr Stink, Harry Potter, Charlie and
Chocolate Factory, Thomas the Tank Engine and so on and so on.
In previous years, we have had astronaut costumes, witches and wizards, and last year’s 1960s’ theme, gave lots of us the excuse to get dressed up in our old clothes! So here is your opportunity: Get planning to win this year’s first prize. In addition, there will be a major parade of classic cars and motorbikes, as usual, and many other entries including the fabulous Batala drum band.
But, that’s not all! The Procession is only a small part of what looks like being a spectacular day. There will be a wide range of stalls, children’s fun games,
arena events including the junior motor bike riders, dog show, inflatables, a big raffle, and lots of food to eat. So, put the date in your diary NOW: Saturday 13th June in the High Street
and Hoe Road recreation ground.
